What Happens When Plans Change?

Unfortunately, it happens. Flights get missed, changed, or cancelled. Work gets in the way. Life gets in the way. It's not something that should be discouraging in the long run though! Sometimes you've just got to roll with the punches and adapt to whatever happens.

What do I do when I miss my flight?
As frustrating as it is, sometimes you sleep in, miss a bus or a train, or even just make a mistake and BOOM, your flight leaves without you. A moment of panic is totally fine, but then you've got some thinking and strategizing to do.

If you have the time to wait an extra day and have the cash on hand to afford a new flight, I'd always recommend trying to book onto the next available flight-but only if you think its worth it. If you worry about it putting you too far back or if you were only going for a long weekend and you'd now only have a day or so, it may be best to just eat the loss and try again next time. As disheartening as it can be, it happens and you can always try it again!

What do I do when my flight is changed?
This is something I've experienced TWICE in the past six months. Some airlines, usually low budget ones lately, will change flights due to a number of different reasons, whether it be that they're losing money and cutting flights or because of the current 737 Max 8 grounding. Whatever the situation may be, it sucks when something out of your control happens. At least when your flight changes, you'll have the ability to rebook free of charge or get a full refund. If you can get the dates changed for your trip or can make it work, YAY! Do it! Enjoy your trip. Brush off the minor inconvenience and have a blast!!

If your dates are set in stone and you now can't make the new flights work, my number one recommendation is to either go online to the airlines chat support or go to social media. Online, you may get stuck waiting in a queue that could last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, whereas if you post about it on Twitter you can usually get a response in a few minutes! I've always had great success with the latter route, and usually you won't even have to go outside of your DM's to get your situation handled.

What do I do when my flight is cancelled?
The worst! This situation stinks and unfortunately there's not a whole lot to do then make sure you get your money back and always, ALWAYS have independent travel insurance! A lot of credit cards come with trip insurance that will help when this happens, especially if you have nonrefundable accommodations. Recoup as much money as possible and plan another trip!

It really stinks when plans change, but when things happen that are out of our control the best thing to do is make the most of out of your trip or save up your time and money again and go on an even bigger adventure! To protect yourself, always always ALWAYS have some sort of travel insurance for when things to awry. Travel on forever.
